Dr. Cafarella is dedicated to the art and science of dentistry. He is also a long time martial arts enthusiast. He is a certified second degree black belt in traditional Shotokan karate under Master Kazumi Tabata, serving as team captain and instructor during his college years. He cross trained in the traditional Japanese arts of Judo and Aikido as well. More recently, he has practiced Boxing, Muay Thai and Kali. The martial arts undoubtedly develop focus and a strong strong mind-body connection, though his favorite Kanji character has always been TAN REN, meaning “forge” and “polish”. This literally refers to the sword making traditions of feudal Japan, but elucidates the importance of hard work and repetition in the development of skill. This harmonizes perfectly with the practice of dentistry.
Drs. Cafarella and Barsoum are the parents of three little boys, Luca , 3 yrs, and twins, Leo and Laith, nearly 2 yrs old. They enjoy the beach, arts and crafts, hiking, nature walks and cooking together as a family.
